Camp
Wayne counselors all excel in particular skills and their passion for
teaching energizes our activity periods. Campers catch the enthusiasm
and it leads to surprising achievement. Every major activity at camp is
headed by a director who is a full-time teacher, coach or professional
in their specialty. Campers with special interests, can always have extra
instruction or join a travel team for competition with neighboring camps.
Our waterfront staff hosts instructional
and recreational programs in swimming, sailing, water-skiing, kneeboarding,
tubing, canoeing, row boating, and kayaking. Our team sports include soccer,
softball, basketball
and volleyball. Girls can also enjoy field
hockey, lacrosse, archery, track and physical conditioning.
We
also place emphasis on the life sports of tennis
and golf. Our tennis program includes
group instruction and private lessons, as well as Early Bird Tennis. Golfers
can build their skills on our driving range, sand bunker and putting green...then
head for real play on nearby golf courses.
Camp Wayne takes a special interest in gymnastics
too, with a dynamic pavilion and an equally dynamic staff. Campers develop
coordination and strength on balance beam, uneven parallel bars, vault,
trampoline and floor exercise. As with tennis, we offer Early Bird Gymnastics.
Older campers can opt for aerobics or jogging.
Back
in the 60's we took the M from Music...
the A from Art... and the D's from Dance
and Drama...and created the MADD Workshop,
our talent-filled facility that encourages campers to express themselves.
Week-long sessions are offered in painting, drawing, ceramics by hand
and wheel, silkscreen, batik, macramé, sculpture, calligraphy,
print making, photography, jewelry and guitar. Drama
offers each camper the opportunity to perform in her group show, which
is co-ed for those completing the fourth grade and higher.
Camp Wayne spirit is everywhere, especially at the Dance
and Cheerleading Dome. This high- energy
activity promotes team work, coordination and creativity. Campers practice
dance routines, cheers and mounts, for their chance to shine at events
such as Group Sing, Tribal and Color War Cheer Nights.
Because the campers enjoy being with the counselors, they have fun learning
new things at activities and get better at almost everything they do.
It's also a great feeling to be with counselors who really like getting
in there--working and playing right along with the campers.
