Our goal at Camp Wayne is to provide our children with a healthy, happy and rewarding camp experience. Throughout the summer our staff provides a positive influence by fostering the growth and character development of each camper.

We value a child’s camp experience as an important part of their maturation. We believe children need to gain a sense of self worth and learn to respect and trust others by living and working together with their peers and counselors. Our campers are encouraged to be honest with themselves, communicate openly with their feelings, develop independence and assume leadership responsibilities.

During group and camp council meetings, campers and staff discuss camp life and are encouraged to offer suggestions for camp programs and policies. These meetings are valuable to everyone as they create a feeling of belonging and a sense of responsibility to the camp community.

In addition, our campers learn through direct experience at a variety of activities where they develop new interests and skills. Camp Wayne for Girls offers children a chance to exercise personal initiative as a means to discover their infinite potential.

A child's experience at camp can have long lasting benefits. Walt Disney chairman Michael Eisner recently authored a book about his experience at camp in the 1950s. Read more about about his experience. Noted child psychologist Michael G. Thompson also praises the camp tradition as a welcome break from our fast paced digitial world.
