![]() Another factor that sets Camp Wayne for Girls apart from other camps is our unique facilities. Every year we add something special to the camp. When campers return year after year, they always have something new to look forward to. Here are some examples: One of our most exciting additions is our fresh water pool, a unique concept in swimming and water sports. We've excavated our lake's shallow swimming area, creating a gentle slope to the depth of four feet, then we put down a double layer of geotextile fabric to keep that mushy, silty lake bottom from stirring up. Next we installed the bottom: a pool-blue-colored non-slip vinyl decking which looks like a swimming pool when viewed through our crystal clear lake water. We also added water basketball and water polo goals, and four black lane lines with turn boards at both ends for lap and competitive swimming. This fresh water pool has everything--except eye-stinging and hair frizzing chlorine! Completed in 2008 and named as an homage to our head director Noel Corpuel, our ARC (Activities and Recreation Center) is a beautiful log and stone lodge which houses a spacious canteen, indoor gymnastics facility, indoor climbing wall, drama rehearsal area, self defense room, fitness studio and staff lounge. All campers live in clean, well maintained cabins or “bunks”. They are equipped with showers, toilets, electricity and plenty of storage space for each camper and counselor. In 2000 we started a project to tear down and rebuild all 19 of our bunks, finally finishing the last bunk in 2005. The result is 19 modern, yet still traditional, bunks for our campers and staff. Our geodesic dome, dedicated to dance and cheerleading, soars over the tops of other camp buildings and covers a circular redwood deck. This beautiful structure provides shade from the sun and shelter from the rain, while its open sides let the summer breeze in to keep campers cool and comfortable. Finishing touches include a stage, full length studio mirrors, safety mats for stunting, skylights and a stereo sound system. As graceful as our young gymnasts themselves, our eight pointed Pavilion sails above our 5200 square foot Gymnastics area. Situated close to the center of camp, our state of the art facility includes all the equipment necessary for campers to meet physical challenges they never thought attainable…carpet spring floor area, trampoline, beams, bars and vault are all protected from the sun while allowing our campers to take in the fresh mountain air. Another one-of-a-kind facility is our Nature Nook--a rustic lakefront log cabin for instruction in camping, environmental education and nature arts. It's also equipped with a kitchen for baking and cooking classes and is conveniently located near our low and high ropes courses and fishing dock, which are all part of the nature program. Each bunk has one bunk cookout and one overnight-- younger campers start out at our authentic Tipi, while older campers camp at our private campsite.. Overlooking our beautiful waterfront is our thrilling Adventure Course. Consisting of a Low Ropes Course designed for team building exercises, a High Ropes Course including a multi-vine traverse, giant swing, cargo net, catwalk and zip line, and a three-sided 30 foot climbing wall, our campers are sure to be “challenged” often! MADD Workshop has ten different work areas for various art media including a classic photography darkroom and eight potter's wheels. A traditional multi-purpose camp facility complete with stage, lighting and sound system which allows us to host all-camp activities and special events such as drama productions, sports games, discos and more. Our log amphitheater, set in the waterfront hill, is a special gathering place for campfires and sing-a-longs and other all-camp events. Gazebo and Swing are the campers' two favorite spots to hang out with friends while gazing out over our beautiful lake. Many campers consider ‘the swing’ their favorite place on camp.
